Public Works accountability

Public Works accountability

When Whitman County Public Works was soliciting all that the road levy tax increase would do for the rural residents of Whitman County, I thought it could be beneficial, but have yet to see the benefit.

They hired three new personnel as promised but that lasted about as long as ... well not long at all. By the time first half of property taxes were payed, equipment operators were beginning to retire and Whitman County Public Works was not filling the vacated positions. The three positions were a great selling point to get the levy passed but are not currently being followed through with.

I’m still waiting to see the extra gravel on the roads from the levy increase that purposed $300,000, which divided between the three districts should be $100,000 in gravel to add on top of what was already allotted – not to forget about the money that was supposed to bolster ditching throughout the county.

Where is the $1.4-1.6 million dollars (est.) going? Where is the accountability at in the road department? They cried about giving us great things but sounds more like a bold lie. The commissioners should be holding the management of public’s works feet to the fire for all of us tax payers footing the bill of this money grab. Where’s the money at?
