Borders resigns from Jennings grade school

Colfax — Jennings Elementary School principal Andrew Borders submitted his resignation, effective June 30.

It was accepted by the school board April 12.

Borders has been in the job since July 2020.

The school district is advertising the position with a closing date of May 4.

Superintendent Jerry Pugh will organize interviews to include staff, community members and perhaps students. He said he hopes to have a recommendation for the school board by the end of May.

Efforts to reach Borders for comment were unsuccessful.

Spring into Reading starts April 22

ColfaxWhitman County Library’s free online “Spring Into Reading” challenge starts April 22 and runs until June 13.

It completes the adventure of reading to earn digital and activity award badges, according to Sherri Miller.

Washtucna schools to hold public forum

Washtucna — The School District will host a second public forum to discuss a possible move to a four-day school week at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 27 in the school gymnasium, 730 N.E. Boone St.

The public forum will be followed by the regular School Board meeting at 7 p.m.

Spokeswoman Lora Hille said the meeting will be informational with opportunities for input and to have questions answered.

Dam visitor center to open May 1

CLARKSTON — The Lower Granite Dam Visitor Center will open seven days a week beginning May 1.

Dam tours are not offered, though the matter will be revisited this summer, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Visitor Center attendees must wear a mask and practice social distancing, according to federal policies and regulations.

Visitor center hours will be 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
