Spike strips stops fleeing Acura to end pursuit
GARFIELD — A Lewiston, Idaho, couple led police on a 15-mile chase that ended with spike strips flattening the fleeing car's tires and their arrest.
On the evening of April 30, the Garfield Town Marshal Joe Handy spotted a 2000 Acura RL being driving by someone he remembered as having warrants in Washington and Idaho, according to Whitman County Deputy Sgt. Michael Jordan.
He tried to stop the car, but the driver allegedly started driving recklessly to escape. Handley requested assistance from the Whitman County Sheriff's Office, the Palouse police, and Pullman police.
Police chased the Acura for about 15 miles before spike strips were deployed and flattened the tires. The car continued for several miles before stopping south of Palouse. The driver and his passenger were arrested.
"Deputies observed heroin and a large amount of used paraphernalia in the vehicle during the stop," stated Jordan.
The driver was Taylor S. Shell, 26, of Lewiston, Idaho, and he was booked for attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle and driving while his license was suspended in the third degree. His initial bail was set at $250,000, according to the Whitman County Jail.
His passenger was Cassidy A. R. Stadtmiller, 23, of Lewiston, Idaho, and she was booked for a Department of Corrections warrant regarding forgery.
