American Legion Codd-French Post donates flags, poles, scholarships

Codd-French Post 41 donated $8,000 to add flagpoles

COLFAX — American Legion Codd-French Post 41 voted to donate flags, flag poles and expand their scholarship program in Colfax.

Colfax Mayor Jim Retzer attended the May 4 meeting and discussed if the legion would help the city purchase new flags for Main Street and two 35 foot flag poles for McDonald Park, according to legion member Jim Lemon.

Legion members voted in favor of purchasing eight 5 x 8-foot nylon American flags for McDonald Park, 70 3 x 5-foot American flags for Main Street.

A donation of $8,000 was presented to Retzer the day after the meeting to pay for the two flag poles at the park, according to Lemon.

The American Legion is asking for volunteers to help with flags to be placed at all of the veterans' graves at the Colfax Cemetery on Memorial Day. Lemon stated he is the person to contact for coordinating the effort and can be reached at 509-595-5006.

American Legion members voted to expand their scholarship program from three to four students, increase the scholarship amount from $1,000 to $2,000, and have at least one student planning to attend a trade school, according to Lemon.
