Idaho man enters plea for trying to flee from the Garfield marshal

COLFAX – A man accused of fleeing the Garfield town marshal pled not guilty on May 7 to the charge of attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle.

Taylor Shell, 27, of Moscow, Idaho, was charged on May 3 in Whitman County Superior Court with attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle.

On the evening of April 30, the Garfield Town Marshal Joe Handy spotted a gold 2000 Acura RL being driven by someone he remembered as having a warrant for the driver's arrest, according to court records.

Handy tried to stop the car, but the driver allegedly started driving recklessly to escape, reaching speeds of more than 100 mph.

Police chased the Acura for about 15 miles before spike strips were deployed and flattened the tires. The car continued for several miles before stopping on State Route 27, south of Palouse.

Shell was booked for attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle and driving while his license was suspended in the third degree.
