Season record stands at 4-1 after beating St. George’s
COLFAX - The Colfax High School girls basketball team won two blowouts last weekend to go to 4-1 on the short season.
They beat Jenkins High School 72-21 and St. George's 50-19.
Asher Cai led at Jenkins with 27 points and 8 rebounds. Jaisha Gibb added 17 points and freshman Hailey Demler got 10 points and 8 rebounds.
Against St. George's, Cai scored 14 points with 8 rebounds and Gibb had 14 points and 5 steals.
The Bulldogs' one loss was against Kettle Falls on May 18 at home. Cai did not play, needing one more practice to be eligible.
Interim Colfax Coach Mike Dorman leads the team in his first year. He's a junior high history teacher with a background in coaching junior high basketball and assisting at Washtucna.
Colfax has no seniors playing this year.
"We're very young, but in a way it's kind of cool because we get to build for next year," said Dorman.
The starting five is Cai, Gibb, Abree Aune, Justice Brown, and Hannah Baerlocher. All are juniors except for Gibb, a sophomore point guard. Freshman contributors are Lauryn York and Demler.
"The program has had tremendous success, for years," said Dorman, who takes over for Corey Baerlocher after 18 seasons. "It's a strong, strong program. Those are big shoes to fill."
Colfax is set to play next at Davenport then home again May 28 against Liberty.
