Wildcats win final game of their season
OAKESDALE – The Colton Wildcats end their season (7-2) with a victory against the Oakesdale girls’ basketball team 52-35 on May 26.
Colton seniors Rylee Vining and Josie Schultheis combined for 22 points in their final game as Wildcats. Vining scored 12 points and hit a 3-pointer. Schultheis added 10 points with sank two 3-pointers.
“It was a tremendous way for them to end their careers,” said Colton Coach Clark Vining. “They’ve had a great run these past four years (and) won a couple of state championships. It’s a great way to end. They showed the way for future Wildcats. They’ll be missed, for sure.”
The Oakesdale Nighthawks (4-1) started the game leading at the end of the first quarter, 13-9. The Wildcats poured on the offense and shut down Oakesdale by outscoring them, 20-4, in the second quarter and leading at halftime 29-17.
“There was a lot of emotion to start, but we settled in and got our bearings,” Vining said.
The second half was a closer game with the Wildcats leading the Nighthawks 23-18 but Colton kept the lead and ended the game winning 52-35.
The lead scorer for Colton was Maggie Meyer as she scored 16 points and hit two 3-pointers.
“We stayed ready and it was nice to get an opportunity to play,” Vining said.
