Facebook video leads Pullman police to suspect

Video shows victim getting knocked out and wallet stolen

PULLMAN – Tyler Knight found that if you post a video of your crime to Facebook, the Pullman police are going to find it.

Tyler S. Knight, 23, of Pullman, was charged on May 25 in Whitman County Superior Court with robbery in the first degree.

On June 13, 2019, Knight allegedly met with the male victim in a parking lot of a skate park in Pullman and beat him while a friend video recorded the assault and theft. He reportedly posted it on a Facebook account to brag about knocking out the victim.

The two men had met months earlier when Knight allegedly “threw (the victim) around because he told Knight that Knight was a bad person and that he didn’t like him,” wrote a Pullman police officer.

The night of the recorded assault, Knight allegedly posed as an acquaintance through text messages to lure the victim out of the store where he worked and to a nearby skate park.

The victim remembers his attacker smirking and nothing else, according to the police report. The video shows the assault of punches and a kick to the face, then the attacker stealing the unconscious victim’s wallet and cellphone.

Nearly two years later, the video was found online and Pullman police documented how Knight was allegedly responsible for posting it onto a Facebook account under a fake name.

Knight is scheduled for his preliminary appearance on June 18.
