Bulldogs boys win first playoff game

Defeats Northwest Christian 62-48, team advances

COLFAX — Basketball playoffs started Monday night with a John Lustig breakaway dunk against Northwest Christian.

Another followed to make the score 7-1. Soon it was 25-7 and 35-15 at halftime. The final score was 62-48 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Lustig led Colfax with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 steals. Seth Lustig added 15 points and Damian Demler scored 10.

"As we enter the playoffs, we talked about taking our effort and focus up a notch and I thought our kids did that," said Colfax Coach Reece Jenkin.

The Bulldogs advance to meet St. George's in Spokane on June 16 in the culminating-event semifinals.

The Dragons (9-3) eliminated Asotin on Tuesday 65-53.

Earlier this season, the young Colfax team lost at St. George's 79-47 but was without Lustig and Demler that night, both were injured.

St. George's starts three seniors in a lineup, which includes three players at 6'5" or taller.

"To beat them with their size, we are going to have to figure out how to rebound the basketball," said Jenkin.

The June 16 winner goes on to the league championship game to be played on June 18.

A story on that game will be posted on Thursday, June 17.
