Four honored with Quilts of Valor

COLFAX — Quilts of Valor were awarded on June 21 at the Colfax United Methodist Church.

Paul Bilderback, 81, of Colfax, served in the Army and Army Reserves from 1957-1977, as an E7, in Germany, Georgia, Texas and California, working as a telephone lineman and later a drill sergeant.

Richard (Rick) Stephens, 74, served in the Air Force from 1965-67 as a staff sergeant and from 1967-69 in the Army National Guard as a security police officer, stationed at Vietnam Air Base Phu Cat.

Del Teade, 86, of Colfax, served from 1958-1960 in the Army, as a private first class clerk typist in El Paso, Texas.

Robert Miller, 86, of Belmont, served from 1953-57 in the Navy during the Korean War as a second-class hospital man in Washington, D.C., and then in Boston on a tanker, the U.S.S. El Komin as a boson mate.

The quilts are made by local women as part of the national Quilts of Valor program. It began in 2003 to honor U.S. military veterans.
