Woman charged with hitting guard

Inmate accused of punching guard in the face

COLFAX — A Pullman woman is accused of punching a Whitman County Jail guard to escape.

Brianna McCabe, 26, of Pullman, was charged in Whitman County Superior Court on June 21 with the felony of custodial assault of a corrections officer.

McCabe is accused of punching a corrections officer while he was delivering medications to the female inmates in the work release room. He entered the room and blocked the door by standing in front of it with a cart, according to court records.

McCabe reportedly stood up after the officer provided an inmate with medications, aimed with her left arm at him then punched the officer in the face causing him to fall back against the door.

The corrections officer and a second officer allegedly wrestled McCabe for roughly two minutes until they had her handcuffed. She is 5 foot, 9 inches tall, and weighs about 115 pounds, according to jail records.

“(Corrections officer) asked what was going on … McCabe replied telling him she was just trying to get out,” wrote the investigating deputy.

She pleaded not guilty and is scheduled for a jury trial on Aug. 16 for the charge of custodial assault.

McCabe is in jail after being charged with assault in the third degree on June 10 for reportedly cutting her father with a wine glass during a domestic dispute in Pullman.

An argument about McCabe using her mother’s car led to her allegedly confronting her parents, grabbing her mom’s wrist, and threatening to hurt her with a folding knife. Her parents wrestled their daughter and took the knife away, according to the police report.

McCabe reportedly grabbed a wine glass and struck her father, breaking the glass, and cutting his face.

She left the home and was arrested later by the Washington State University police, who reported she had four knives on her during the arrest.
