Popular fishing lake closes for construction project

OLYMPIA — The Liberty Lake Access Area in Spokane County closes for construction on Sept. 7.

The $319,705 project is expected to be complete in early December.

Closing the area allows renovations to the boat ramp, sealing and striping the parking area, installing new signs, adding a new fishing pier with benches, and replacing the vault toilets with Americans With Disabilities Act-compliant vault toilets, according to Dan Dziekan, a state Fish and Wildlife Department (WDFD) access manager.

“Liberty Lake is one of our most used access areas in the Spokane area, and it gets a lot of wear and tear,” Dziekan said. “Unfortunately, the small window of time when we can complete work near water means this area will be closed for a while when the weather is still warm”

Liberty Lake is a popular lake for trout, bass, and perch fishing. It is normally open for fishing from March 1 through Oct. 31.
