Palouse works to repair water main leaks

PALOUSE - Two water leaks and a broken sprinkler valve are being repaired in Palouse.

On Mohr Street, a galvanized water pipe is leaking underground.

"There's been some leaks and they put bands on it," said public works Director Mike Wolf. "We're going to dig it up and put in a new ... line."

A water leak developed on West Main at the pool parking lot entrance. Wolf said it looks like a service line coming off the main.

"Until you dig it up you don't know," he said.

A brown area of grass on West Main Street led public works to determine a sprinkler valve was broken. They were trying to get it to work to improve the grass for Palouse Days.

They couldn't turn the irrigation system on. The nut to turn on the water was rounded off, which made them dig it up.

"The valve body wasn't that bad but we had an adopted handle on it. We had to dig about 3 feet down and put in a new valve."
