Robert Lawrence (Larry) Ellis

On Wednesday, March 10, 2021, Robert Lawrence (Larry) Ellis, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away at the age of 72, while residing at Manor Care in Spokane, Wash. Larry was born to John L. and Lorna A. Ellis on December 16th, 1948, in Anamosa, Iowa. The Ellis family moved to Colfax, Wash., in 1952, where John went to work for Gene Foley helping run his concrete business.

Larry graduated from Colfax High School in 1966 and went on to attend the University of Montana in Missoula. The Vietnam War was in full swing at this time, and Larry joined the US Armed Forces, attending Army language school in Monterey, Calif. There he learned both French and Thai before heading to Thailand, where he served as an interpreter of military documents. This is where he met and married Sa-Orn (Nit) Hatorn. Larry and Nit moved to Bellingham, Wash., and Larry became the General Manager of the Bellingham Yacht Club. While living in Bellingham, they had one son, Gabriel, born in February of 1977. In the 1980s they moved to Santa Anna, Calif., where Larry became the General Manager of the Elks Lodge. Larry and his family later moved back to Colfax and was the Head Chef at The Courtyard Assisted Living facility until his retirement.

Larry is survived by his wife Nit, his son, Gabriel of Spokane, Wash .; one sister Lynne Stewart of Colfax, Wash., and one brother John (Jack) Ellis of Mead, Wash .; three nieces, two nephews and two beloved grandchildren.
