Colfax Bulldogs football trees Asotin Panthers

Win puts Colfax 2-2 for season

shut down the Asotin Panthers for the first half, leading to a 26-14 Colfax win on Sept. 24.

The Bulldogs were leading 20-0 at halftime. Their first drive was 15 plays.

“Our offense is set up to eat up the clock and keep their offense on the bench,” said Colfax Coach Mike Morgan. “I think we did a really good job with that.”

The third quarter was a lot of plays but no scoring.

“Asotin made it interesting in the fourth quarter by scoring two touchdowns,” said Morgan. “We scored on in the fourth quarter as well.”

Bulldog Mascon Gilchrist led his team on both sides of the ball.

He took his first interception and ran it for a pick-six touchdown. His second interception stopped Asotin’s drive. He had 160 yards on offense, said Morgan.

“He was a workhorse for us … they couldn’t stop him,” he said. ”He kept sneaking up on the blitz. The quarterback couldn’t find him and that was how he picked off the two passes.”

Colfax’s defense was strong and the defense set up the offense.

“They gave us a little excitement in the end, but our kids played well enough to hang on for the win,” said Morgan. “We took good care of the ball and had very few turnovers.”

The Bulldogs host the Liberty Lancers on Friday.

“It’s going to be the same dog fight as the last four games,” Morgan said. “They have a brand new coach and some fine athletes.”

Morgan’s is cautiously optimistic. The Bulldogs have split the last four games against Liberty.

”If we continue playing the way we are playing, we have a good opportunity to win the ball game on Friday,” said Morgan. “We are getting better every week.”
