Pomeroy dominates Timberwolves, 74-0

Pirates show why their ranked No. 1 in Class 1B football

TEKOA — The undefeated Pomeroy Pirates showed why they are the No. 1-ranked Class 1B football team in the state, dominating the Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves, 74-0, in a league matchup on Sept. 24.

"The young Timberwolves ran up against a big, experienced team from Pomeroy," Timberwolves Coach Jay Scholz said, noting his team wants to forget about the loss and move on.

"The 'Wolves matched the physicality through most of the first quarter, but after a couple missed defensive assignments and miscues on offense, the game was virtually over early."

Tekoa-Rosalia (1-2) opened the season on Sept. 10 with a 78-0 loss to No. 7-ranked Liberty Christian, but rebounded Sept. 18 to perennial North-Central Washington powerhouse Entiat with a 38-34 upset.

The Timberwolves travel to Sunnyside on Friday to face the undefeated Sunnyside Christian Knights (4-0). Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

The No. 10-ranked Knights are coming off a 66-13 win over St. John-Endicott-LaCrosse.

Pomeroy (4-0) hosts Touchet (1-2) this Friday, before traveling to St. John to play the Eagles at 7 p.m. on Oct. 8.

Pomeroy sits atop the Class 1B rankings, followed by Almira-Coulee/Hartline at No. 2, Odessa at No. 3, Lummi at No. 4, Naselle at No. 5 and Wilbur-Creston at No. 6. Liberty Christian remains at No. 7, followed by Evergreen Lutheran at No. 8, DeSales at No. 9 and Sunnyside Christian at No. 10.
