Rosalia gallery's connection to Powell

ROSALIA - The Budding Rose Art Gallery and Clayworks in Rosalia marks the passing of Colin Powell.

The former four-star general and Secretary of State passed away on Oct. 18 from complications of COVID. Powell was in the early stage of Parkinson's disease and his multiple myeloma, blood cancer, was in remission, according to Reuters.

The Budding Rose Art Gallery joined Powell's America's Promise Campaign in 1999 as Discovery Project 270, according to gallery owner Diane Nebel.

America's Promise was to provide 2 million at-risk youth with resources to lead a happy, healthy, and productive life.

"Our Discovery Project has its roots back to," said Nebel. "The Budding Rose Art Gallery focuses on one of the categories of America's Promise of building 'Safe Places and Building Self Esteem.'"

This year the gallery celebrates its 22nd Annual Student Art Show.

"Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 rules, the gallery had to feature all of the students'' art in a window display," said Nebel. "My promise, as owner of the Budding Rose Art Gallery and Clayworks, is to keep the doors and windows open with my aim to provide fundamental resources for our youth to lead a happy, healthy, productive, and ... creative life."
