BELLEVUE — The Colfax School Board is meeting Friday, Nov. 19, more than 260 miles from home.
"(The) Board of Directors will convene to discuss professional development following the daily sessions at the annual conference of the Washington State School Directors' Association," according to the legally required notice published in The Daily Bulletin on Thursday.
Gazette Publisher Roger Harnack attempted to reach School Board Chairman Terry Huber about the meeting planned at The Cheesecake Factory, 410 Bellevue Square at 6 p.m.
An employee of the board, Superintendent Jerry Pugh returned the call.
"We're just having dinner," Pugh said. "This is me just being transparent."
Pugh said the board members were only going to discuss their professional development, not any staff development.
With a quorum of the school board present, it is legally allowed to conduct business. The public is allowed to attend meetings of the school board, regardless of where they are held and for what reason.
