PULLMAN — The Community Congregational United Church of Christ donated $1,000 to the Community Relief Fund for financial support to homeless people.
The Pullman-based Christian church is committed to “peace and social justice,” stated Outreach Coordinator Megan Guido.
The fund was founded by the Poverty Awareness Taskforce in 2013. More than 100 people have received support to primarily cover the cost of transportation for families to get to family members or where resources may be, and overnight stays in hotels.
The Community Relief Fund depends on donations from individuals and churches. The Community Action Center manages the fund. Since the pandemic, donations have decreased while the demand increased.
“The church’s Justice and Witness Team is pleased to help fill its coffers,” stated Guido.
