ST. JOHN – Eagle Ashlynn Archer signed a letter to play volleyball for Sacramento State university one week after winning third place at the state tournament.
Her family, friends, and St. john-Endicott-LaCrosse (SJEL) coach, Jenn Johnson, were present Nov. 15 in the St. John-Endicott High School gym as she agreed to a full-ride to play as a Sacramento State Hornet next year. She is a senior and graduates in 2022.
"She is very excited to go down there and play," said Johnson. "She's an amazing athlete ... and even better person."
Archer received the honors of being named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Second Team for All America. She is the only player in Washington State to be chosen.
She's also the District 9 1B Southeast League All-League Player of the Year. The honor was decided by a vote of league coaches.
Johnson said this is the first player for her who received a university scholarship.
In her career at SJEL, Archer accumulated 882 kills and did it with one of her four years being shut down due to the COVID pandemic and missing two tournaments this season due to a pause of athletics due to COVID concerns.
"She's a huge part of our team," Johnson said. "It's been an honor to be her coach from the sixth-grade to graduation. It's every coach's dream to see a player move on to the college level. I am very proud of her."
