November is Caregivers month. I was recently reminded of the importance of caregivers because a friend’s mom, a real sharp lady, fell and hit her head. This caused a brain bleed and other complications which have impaired her ability to care for herself.
My friend’s wife has tried to find a 24-hour care center that has space and staff to help, but the shortage of caregivers has made that very difficult. So like many of us have had to do, my friend’s wife has been caring for her mother in the meantime and between her work and mom is really getting wore out.
We should appreciate the work of caregivers, both unpaid and paid, as they provide a service that is critical to the wellbeing of our family members at different times in our lives. On a hopeful note, my friend may have found a facility with qualified staff to care for her mother. I’m praying it works out.
