Conservation Stewardship Program offered

SPOKANE VALLEY – Agricultural producers wanting to enhance conservation efforts are encouraged to apply for a Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) Classic contract.

USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) helps private landowners improve their business while implementing conservation practices to help ensure the sustainability of their entire operation.

Applications for the Conservation Stewardship Program Classic are due by March 31, 2022.

Through CSP, agricultural producers and forest landowners earn payments for actively managing, maintaining, and expanding conservation activities like cover crops, ecologically-based pest management, buffer strips, and pollinator and beneficial insect habitat.

Farmers can maintain active agricultural or forest production on their land while doing so.

CSP encourages the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and new management techniques such as precision agriculture applications, on-site carbon storage, planting for high carbon sequestration rate, and new soil amendments to improve water quality.

Producers interested in a CSP Classic contract are recommended to contact their local USDA service center.
