Colfax Bulldogs volleyball presented awards

COLFAX – Plaques, hugs, tears, and laughs were part of the Colfax volleyball awards banquet on Dec. 3.

About 60 parents, grandparents, and players gather in the Colfax High School cafeteria for a meal made by parents to watch the team awards to be presented, said varsity volleyball Coach Brandy Brown.

The Bulldogs won fifth place at the 2021 Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) state volleyball tournament.

Sixteen teams competed in the 2021 2B State Volleyball Tournament at the Yakima SunDome on Nov. 11-12.

Colfax ended 20-1 having lost only one game throughout the season, District 9 playoffs, and the state championship to the Raymond Seagulls.

The four senior captains of the team received their Captain Awards. Abree Aune, Justice Brown, Asher Cai, and Kendall Gosney.

Aune received the Spark Award for being the most energetic player who inspired others on the team, said Brown.

Brown received an Offense Award for having 730 assists during the season.

Cai received an Offense Award for having 241 kills. She is going to Central Washington University to play basketball, according to her coach.

Jaisha Gibb received a Defense Award for having 353 digs.

Brynn McGaughy received the Most Improved Award. Brown said she improved the most form the start of the season to the end of the seasons to be tied for the most blocks.

Lauryn York received the Bulldog Award for being the player who is always competitive, tenacious, and plays without giving up.
