Serving Whitman County since 1877
Nov. 17, 1934 - Dec. 9, 2021
Yvonne Marie Medutis, longtime Colfax resident, passed away Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the Whitman Health & Rehab Center where she had been for only a short time. She was 87. Services will be planned in the Spring.
Yvonne was born in Fort Yates, North Dakota on November 17, 1934 to Nellie C. Sloan. Yvonne lived with her great-aunt and uncle when she was a baby and she moved with them to Moscow, Idaho. After her mother finished beauty school, she also made the move to Idaho and joined the rest of the family already there.
Yvonne attended grade school in Moscow, then moved with the family to Potlatch, Idaho where they owned and operated a laundry. In 1949 they bought a laundry in Sandpoint, Idaho, and she went to high school there, graduating in 1953.
Yvonne met and married George Medutis in 1957 and they moved to Colfax and made it home ever since. George was a milk man and Yvonne worked as a bartender at the Fraternal Order of Eagle's. They had two sons, Eugene and Bryan. Later she worked for Vern Sullivan in his restaurant as a cook and bartender.
Yvonne was a cook for over 10 years for the Sigma Nu and Lamba Chi Alpha fraternities and had to leave that job due to health reasons later in life. She liked to volunteer at the Colfax Food Pantry and at the Senior lunches. Yvonne always felt blessed to live in Colfax in the same home for over 60 years. Her husband, George, passed away in 2009.
In addition to sons Eugene and Bryan, she is survived by five grandchildren: Kyle, Jacob, Nathan, Kadie and Ashley; and by 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; as well as numerous cousins that Yvonne was close to. She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. On-line guest book is at http://www.bruningfuneralhome.com.
