Regency Pullman senior living damaged by water

PULLMAN - When the temperature dropped to 11 degrees, a sprinkler head broke, spilling hundreds of gallons of water into the Regency Pullman senior living facility.

Residents were awoken at 3:30 a.m. on Dec. 17 as the sprinkler broke and Pullman firefighters arrived at the facility at 1285 SW Center Street, according to Ray Lamoureux, Pullman Fire Department public information officer.

No residents or their rooms were affected by the water and residents did not need evacuation.

The water poured onto the first floor of the building before the system was shut down. Most of it was on the first floor in the newly renovated entryway and dining area.

Emergency crews worked for more than an hour to remove as much water as possible to limit damage to the building and furnishings.

The facility is contacting their insurance company.

Investigators claim the freezing temperatures caused the failure.

Pullman fire crews have responded to similar calls when sprinkler heads would be affected by cold weather and start spilling water. The department reminds everyone to make sure their water lines are protected from the freezing temperatures.
