Pullman Regional Hospital welcomes first baby of 2022

PULLMAN - Whitman County has its first baby of 2022.

Nora Joan Kawula was delivered at 3:48 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 3, at the Pullman Regional Hospital.

Whitman Hospital and Medical Clinics has yet to see its first baby born in 2022. Officials there said no mothers were in the delivery stages, at press time.

Nora was welcomed by her mother, Margot Gilder, 27, and father, Evan Kawula, 33. She weighed 8 pounds and 6 ounces. She was 21 inches long.

Nora - whose name was inspired by the parents' shared love of Jazz music and the mother's grandmother - was born with a "beautiful head of hair," Gilder said.

Neither of the parents is originally from Whitman County.

Gilder is originally from Moscow, Idaho, and Evan Kawula, from Chapel Hill, N.C.

They shared a "wonderful experience at Pullman Regional Hospital" and have "received many gifts for Nora from the hospital," Gilder said on Tuesday from her hospital room.

Receiving gift cards, a nursing pillow, and many other items, Nora is "happy and loves to eat," Gilder added.

The new parents said they are incredibly grateful for the ease and comfort they experienced while delivering their firstborn at Pullman Regional Hospital.
