As residents of the Colfax School District, we can show once again how much we value the high-quality education provided by our district.
Resolution 511 renews the levy for 2023 and 2024. It requests voter approval to continue to fund programs and services already in place, such as nursing, counseling, arts and vocational programs, and athletics, along with operational expenses like insurance and utilities. State funding just doesn’t go far enough, and the district is allowed to fill the gap by requesting these levy funds. They show prudence by requesting enough to maintain the above-mentioned services while accounting for inflation and rising costs. But they demonstrate restraint and consideration for taxpayers by not requesting the maximum allowed levy amount.
Now, many voters may be more hesitant to support the public school system during this time of upheaval and conflict brought on by the state’s handling of COVID. However, I would argue that it’s more important now than ever to show support for our local public school by voting in favor of this levy. Many of us have argued for more local control and parental choice over the way our children are educated and treated while on school grounds. These levy funds will not only demonstrate how much we value our school system but will also provide funding that comes with fewer state restrictions on how they are used for the benefit of the students.
Please, use your voting voice to show your support and vote to approve Resolution 511.
