Victim tested negative for COVID
COLFAX – The Whitman County Public Health said a death of an adult due to flu complications in the “first week of January.”
“The adult tested positive for influenza A and negative for COVID-19,” according to the Public Health Department.
The actual cause of death was not released, nor the age of the patient.
“To protect the privacy of the family and individual, no further details will be released” the agency stated.
The 2020-21 flu season influenza cases and deaths were historically low, but the health agency said cases of influenza and other viral illness are rising.
Flu vaccinations are commended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“Vaccination is the best way to prevent infection with the flu,” officials said. “Vaccination can also make illness milder for those who do get the flu, making it especially important for those at higher risk of more serious outcomes, such as those over 65 years old, children under 5, pregnant women and those with certain medical conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, and obesity.”
