COLFAX – Whitman County Coroner Annie Pillers announced she is running for re-election in November.
Candidates can file for election from May 16 to May 20. The primary election is Aug. 2 and the general election is Nov. 8.
The coroner is not alone. Seven other county officials face re-election this year. The positions of assessor, auditor, clerk, Dist. 3 commissioner, prosecuting attorney, sheriff, and treasurer are part of the general election.
Pillers joined the coroner’s office in 2008, became a deputy coroner in 2013, and began serving as county coroner in March 2018, when former coroner Pete Martin retired.
“In my service to our county, I’ve come to deeply appreciate the work of the Coroner’s Office in assisting families and the public in understanding the cause and manner of all types of deaths; each person and of the highest priority to the family,” said Pillers.
The coroner is responsible for death investigations, case management, administration, and fiscal operations for the department. Pillers also handled a variety of crime scene investigations.
Early in her career, she worked for the largest police association in the state of California as the general manager of the Peace Officers’ Research Association of California.
Pillers worked in public administration for Palouse, Garfield, the Port of Whitman, and the non-profit organization, Friends of Hospice.
She’s lived in Whitman County for the last 32 years. She resides in Palouse with her husband, Marvin.
She volunteers with the Palouse Emergency Medical Services, Latah County Search and Rescue, Idaho State Trackers and hospice.
