Colfax boys, girls seeded No. 3 into regional games
SPOKANE VALLEY - The Colfax boys and girls basketball teams split with Liberty (Spangle) for District 7 Class 2B titles Saturday at West Valley High School.
The Bulldog girls (19-1) won the title, dunking the 18-3 Lancers, 76-39. The boys lost 66-57 to Liberty (19-2) to finish second in district.
Both the Colfax boys and girls are seeded No. 3 entering the regional round of the playoffs.
The boys (18-4) will play No. 6 Napavine at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at University High School, 12420 E. 32nd Ave.
The local girls will play an 8 p.m. nightcap at the same location that night against the Lake Roosevelt Raiders.
The girls reached the game by knocking off Liberty.
Senior Asher Cai led the Bulldogs with 17 points and Harper Booth added 13.
Teagan Colvin of Liberty led all scorers with 24 points.
In the boys District 7 final, 6-foot-3 senior guard John Lustig led all scorers with 32 points, including 12 points from beyond the 3-point arc.
Lincoln Foland led the Liberty attack with 17 points as teammate Tayshawn Colvin added 15.
Colton wins District, Garfield-Palouse also advances
DAYTON - While Colfax was winning in Spokane Valley, Colton and Garfield-Palouse girls were facing off for the 1B girls District 9 title at Dayton High School.
Colton (18-2) shocked No. 1-seed Garfield-Palouse, 40-37, on Friday, Feb. 18.
Colton took the title and advanced to the regional games as the No. 2 seed.
In the consolaton round of the tournament, Pomeroy eliminated Oakesdale from the post season, 41-40, on Saturday, Feb. 19.
Individual statistics were not reported from those games.
In the regional opening round, the Colton Wildcats will take on the No. 7-seeded Wellpinit Redskins (11-5) in the first round of the playoffs at noon Friday, Feb. 26, at Central Valley High School, 821 S. Sullivan Road.
Garfield-Palouse (16-5) enters regional play as the No. 5 seed.
The Vikings will play Wilbur-Creston (16-4) at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at Wenatchee High School, 1101 Millerdale Ave., Wenatchee.
Pomeroy, the No. 8 seed, travels to Mount Vernon to face No. 1-ranked Mount Vernon. The tipoff of that game is noon Friday.
The losers of those three games next play March 2, the winners March 3 in the state Hardwood Classic in Spokane Veterans Arena.
