Habitat Hero awards presented for 2022

Two supporters of Palouse Habitat for Humanity chosen

MOSCOW, Idaho – The Palouse Habitat for Humanity recognized Moscow Central Lions Club and Tom Carpenter of Cabinets & More with Habitat Hero awards in 2022.

The Moscow Central Lions Club volunteers help build accessibility ramps, install handrails, repair decks, and front porches so low- and very low-income homeowners around the Palouse region have safe access to and from their homes.

“Thanks to the support of the Lions, we have completed 140 projects, benefiting 220 individuals around Latah and Whitman counties,” said Palouse Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Jennifer Wallace

Tom Carpenter, of Cabinets & More in Princeton, Idaho, has been a Habitat supporter since the Minard home build in Potlatch, Idaho, in 2017. Carpenter donated the cabinetry and countertops, including installation, for the entire Minard home.

Since then, he has continued to contribute to the cabinetry of each subsequent Palouse Habitat for Humanity home. Carpenter’s dedication was valuable during this past year when it was challenging to find affordable home building materials and contractors to install them, said Wallace.

The Habitat Hero award is given to a business, individual, or organization whose support improved Palouse Habitat for Humanity’s ability to meet the housing needs of low-income residents of the Palouse.

Past recipients include Chuck Spurgeon, of Spurgeon Construction, Jim Fredenburg, of Moscow and Pullman Building Supply, Wells Fargo Bank, the Lewiston Fire Fighters IAFF Local 1773, and Howard Hughes Appliance TV and Sleep Shop.

The Habitat Hero awards are presented during the Palouse chapter’s annual fundraiser event, Beans ‘n’ Jeans, on April 16 at the SEL Event Center in Pullman. People not in-person can join via ZOOM. For more information, visit palousehabitat.org/events/beans-n-jeans.
