Event planned for April 18 in high school auditorium
COLFAX – The annual high school spring band concert returns after a COVID-19 mandate-related hiatus.
The concert is set for 7 p.m. April 18 in the Colfax High School auditorium, 1110 N. Morton St.
The concert features band students in grades 5-12.
The concert concludes with the high school Jazz band.
“Everyone is welcome and admission is free,” high school band director Mike Morgan said.
The bands have spent their time playing at music events throughout the winter months, he said.
“The spring is competition time for the junior high concert band, high school concert band, and the high school jazz band,” he said.
The jazz band attended the Bill Bolick Jazz Festival in Clarkston.
Two high school students represented Colfax.
The jazz band also took second place in its division at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival.
In March, the junior high band traveled to Palouse for the Junior High Large Groups Festival, where it received high marks from two college adjudicators.
The jazz band is expected to travel to Pasco to compete at the Jazz Unlimited Festival held at Columbia Basin College on April 16.
The jazz band is traveling to Gresham, Ore., to compete in the Mt. Hood Community College Jazz Northwest Festival on May 7.
The band season is expected to wind down with the final jazz concert at 7 p.m. May 12 at home in the Colfax High School auditorium.
The final event for local band students will be high school graduation June 4.
