J.P. Wigen pitches no-hitter against Liberty Lancers
REARDAN – The Colfax Bulldogs won one, and lost one in Reardan on April 22.
The first game was Colfax's victory with a score of 8-1 after seven innings.
The Bulldogs jumped to a 4-0 lead after three innings. Both teams score one run in the fourth inning.
Innings five and six were quiet and Colfax came out at the top of the seventh to add three more runs for a final score of 8-1 and the win.
Alex Mortensen was the winning pitcher for Colfax.
He threw for seven innings and had 3 strikeouts, while yielding one run, one error and one walk.
Colfax's J.D. Peterson led the offense with a .500 average for the game. He had 2 hits in 4 times at-bat.
Brayden Plummer racked up 2 RBIs on 2 hits and crossed the plate once himself.
Jakob Sisk was able to score and drive in an RBI on his single hit.
The second game of the doubleheader belonged to Reardan, with a 15-9 win over Colfax.
The Bulldogs lost the pitching duel as Dawson Lobdell struggled for 2.2 innings, throwing 6 hits and 10 runs while gathering 5 errors, and 3 walks.
Mason Gilchrist relieved him and finished the 3.1 innings. He threw for 6 hits and 5 runs, while gathering 5 errors and 2 walks.
The nine runs were from J.J. Bodey, Erik Christensen, Gilchrist, Lobdell, Mortensen, Peterson, Plummer and J.P. Wigen.
Split with Liberty
The Bulldogs and Liberty Lancers split a doubleheader April 19 after J.P. Wigen threw a no-hitter.
Liberty (Spangle) won the first game 5-0 on runs scored in the fifth and seventh innings,
according to Colfax Coach Scott Parrish.
Colfax generated two hits but runners never made it to home plate.
Bulldog JD Peterson pitched for all seven innings and threw 10 strikeouts, but he also gave up 8 hits for 5 runs and two errors.
Colfax found better success in the second game, winning 10-0 in five innings.
The Bulldogs' bats were firing consistently against three Liberty pitchers, scoring a run in the first inning, two in the second, one more in the third inning, and three runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth for a total of 10.
The Lancers were shut out without having a single hit off of Colfax's pitcher Wigen. He threw for all five innings and generated 6 strikeouts. Wingren didn't allow a hit or have an error.
Colfax had 10 runs on 12 hits, seven being RBIs.
Mason Gilchrist batted .1000 with 4 hits from 4 times at-bat. He batted in 3 RBIs and cross home plate twice.
Ryan Henning had 2 hits on 3 times at-bat. He knocked in 2 RBIs.
