Job fair, community events set for Tekoa

Events planned for Friday and Saturday, May 13-14

TEKOA – A free community event hosted by the Tekoa Chamber of Commerce will take place Friday and Saturday, May 13 and 14.

Tekoa Chamber of Commmerce Vice President Melinda Wilkins said she is excited to open up to the community and host a number of events.

“We want to bring out the best part of our community and showcase that,” Wilkins said.

The event will be split into three parts.

From 8:30-11:30 a.m, a community job fair will take place.

“Our local businesses are participating and it's for people looking for employment.”

From 1-4p.m, a community Q&A session with the Port of Whitman will take place.

There will be a table discussion regarding news and events in Tekoa.

“We have some big things going on with the trail and new businesses coming in,” she said. “We have a direction we want Tekoa to go so we have some new ideas and we want to pinpoint some big projects.”

The last part planned from 6-9 p.m. is a community fair to showcase volunteer opportunities.

Friends of the Tekoa Trail will host a children’s bike giveaway Friday and talk about news for the trail and trestle. Bikes will be given to winners Saturday.

A free movie will also be shown Friday.

The soft opening for the Tekoa Trestle will take place Saturday, May 14.

“We have a lot to talk about and a lot going on. We have had a lot of new people move to town so this will be a good introduction,” Wilkins said. “I think we are most excited that we are giving opportunities to people so they can see what’s going on in Tekoa.”

The trestle's grand opening is June 5.

Friends of the Tekoa Trail will host another giveaway during that celebration, and bikes for adults and children will be offered as prizes.
