Garfield-Palouse graduates receive scholarships

PALOUSE — Several Garfield-Palouse graduates racked up thousands of dollars in scholarships as they head into community colleges and universities.

Here are the scholarships that were awarded:

Myles Bowechop, attending Washington State University — Alli Bennett Memorial Scholarship ($500), Garfield Community Church, Garfield Christian Fellowship, Palouse Federated Church and GarPal YoungLife: Life Lessons Award ($250), Viking Crew ($100), Garfield-Palouse Performing Arts Boosters ($500), Living Scholarship of Ben Perkins ($750), Klallam Language Program Grant ($250). She was also offered scholarships from Arizona and Montana State totaling $82,000

Maci Brantner, attending Washington State University — Round Table Club ($1,000), Colfax Thrifty Grandmothers’ ($1,000), Life Lessons Award ($250), Distinguished Young Women of Garfield Palouse ($1,200), Katrina Thompson Scholarship ($1,000), Viking Crew ($100), Garfield-Palouse Performing Arts Boosters ($500), Tim Dawdy Scholastic Athlete Award, Experience WSU scholarship ($1,000), WSU Distinguished University Achievement Award ($4,000) per year for 4 years, WSU Facilities Services Scholarship ($1,000), WSU Alumni Freshmen Legacy Palouse WA Chapter Leadership Award ($5,000) and WSU Faculty-Staff Scholarship ($1,000)

Madison Cloninger, attending Spokane Falls Community College — Ellis and Neta Schaffer Memorial Scholarship ($50), Life Lessons Award ($250), Viking Crew ($100) and a softball scholarship at Spokane Falls Community College for 20% tuition waiver fall and winter quarter and a 60% tuition waiver for spring

MaKenzie Collier, attending Spokane Community College — Palouse Lions Club ($1,500), Life Lessons Award ($250), Viking Crew ($100) and Living Scholarship of Ben Perkins ($750)

Denni Fealy, attending Washington State University — Chapter AE, P.E.O. Scholarship ($500), Garfield-Palouse FFA Boosters Scholarship ($1,000), Garfield-Palouse National Honor Society Alumni ($500), Life Lessons Award ($250), Colfax Thrifty Grandmothers’ ($1,000), Whitman County Principals’ Association ($400), Distinguished Young Women of Garfield-Palouse ($3,680), Katrina Thompson Scholarship ($500), Chapter IO, P.E.O. Scholarship ($500), Viking Crew ($100), William F. Halpin Award for Math and Science, Washington Honors Award for ranking in the top 10% of the graduating class in the state of Washington, Navy ROTC scholarship (full tuition waiver to any university with a Navy detachment), Air Force ROTC Type 7 scholarship (full tuition waiver to any in state university with an Air Force detachment or out-of-state aid capped at in-state tuition); also offered scholarships to Baylor University, Clarkson University, St. Thomas Aquinas College and University of Idaho totaling $477,564, WSU Regents Scholar Award ($4,000) per year for 4 years and the WSU Distinguished University Achievement Award ($4,000) per year for four years.

Brandon Hallan, attending Washington State University — Life Lessons Award ($250), Garfield-Palouse Audio/Visual Club ($500), Katrina Thompson Scholarship ($500), Palouse Grain Growers: Bruce Baldwin Memorial Scholarship ($1,000), Xenodican Club ($500), Garfield-Palouse Education Association ($600), Palouse Lions Club ($1,500), Oakesdale Masonic Lodge ($500), Steve Cocking Memorial Scholarship ($250), Viking Crew ($100), Megistanis Award ($1,000), Washington Honors Award for ranking in the top 10% of the graduating class in the state of Washington. He was also offered scholarships to University of Idaho and Montana State totaling $104,580, WSU University Achievement Scholarship ($4,000) per year for 4 years, Experience WSU scholarship ($1,000)

Brooke McCulla, attending Carroll College — State Bank Northwest Memorial Scholarship ($500), ASB Memorial Scholarship ($350), Associated Student Body of Garfield-Palouse H.S. scholarship in the names of Stan Bischoff, Kurt Brantner and Maddie Blankenship, Health Care Careers ($500). McCulla was also offered scholarships from Montana State, WSU and EWU totaling $64,000 and Carroll College Trustee Scholarship ($20,000) per year for four years.

Dylan Meithof, attending Cascadia College — Life Lessons Award ($250)

Cameron Merrill, entering the trades as an electrician — Life Lessons Award ($250)

Jessica Olson, attending Lewis Clark State College — Life Lessons Award ($250), Lewis Clark State College Western Undergraduate Exchange scholarship ($10,342) per year for two years and Lewis Clark State College Achievement Scholarship ($2,000) per year for two years.

Kate Olson, earning her real estate license — Life Lessons Award ($250).

Jaxson Orr, attending Spokane Falls Community College — Life Lessons Award ($250).

Kenzi Pedersen, attending Columbia Basin College in Pasco — Life Lessons Award ($250), Cascade Aircraft Conversions ($500), Katrina Thompson Scholarship ($500), Chapter IO, P.E.O. Scholarship ($500), Viking Crew ($100), Oakesdale Masonic Lodge ($500), Tim Dawdy Scholastic Athlete Award, WIAA smart choices scholarship ($1,000). She was offered scholarships to WSU and University of Idaho totaling $81,580, an athletic scholarship to Columbia Basin College for basketball for a 65% tuition waiver for one quarter.

Abigail Perkins, attending Eastern Washington University — Xenodican Club ($500), Health Care Careers ($500), Offered a Western Undergraduate Exchange scholarship to Lewis Clark State College, Eastern Washington University Dean’s scholarship ($2,000) per year for four years.

Samantha Snekvik, attending Washington State University — Garfield-Palouse Education Association ($600), Life Lessons Award ($250), Garfield-Palouse FFA Memorial Scholarship ($500), Palouse Grain Growers ($250), Colfax Thrifty Grandmothers’ ($1,000), Distinguished young women ($720), Viking Crew ($100), Megistanis Award ($1,000), Katrina Thompson Scholarship ($1,000), PEO Star Scholarship National Award ($2,500), Whitman County Cattlemen’s Association scholarship ($1,000), Washington Honors Award for ranking in the top 10% of the graduating class in the state of Washington. She was also offered scholarships to Oregon State University, Carroll College and Montana State University totaling $192,000, Washington State University Regents Scholarship ($4,000) per year for four years, Experience WSU scholarship ($1,000) and the WSU Distinguished University Achievement Award ($4,000) per year for four years.

Kane Weiker, working at Jess Ford of Pullman — Community Scholarship: Life Lessons Award ($250).
