COLFAX- Locals and visitors gathered to celebrate Colfax's 150th Celebration on Saturday and Sunday, July 23 and 24.
A large group met at Eells Park Saturday morning at 9:30 to see the newly renovated Lippett fountain.
Distinguished Young Women Miss Colfax Ellie Nails and Princess Olivia Ng held a ribbon as dignitaries cut it to commemorate the fountain spouting water for the first time in eight years.
"It shows when we get all the organizations together what can happen for the city and our community," Mayor Jim Retzer said about the 150 Celebration. "Hopefully, we can build on it in the future."
A mural dedication followed at 10:15 a.m. as Colfax Arts Council members introduced Artist Henry Stinson of Wenatchee, who answered questions about the meaning of the panels on the mural.
On the right hand corner is the Codger Pole and the mascot of Colfax the Bulldog, underneath a depiction of St. Ignatius hospital. There are chickens, a Cow noticing another cow being abducted, Sasquatch feet, ducks, a horse, and llamas depicted.
"I thought it was fun, and very enjoyable to ask questions of Henry, and his answers were interesting," Colfax Arts Council Secretary Emily Adams said of the mural dedication. "We are just really excited to have this mural to celebrate the 150, and we're going to try in the next few years to keep doing more murals."
The Colfax 150 mural is the second mural in downtown to be painted by Stinson.
His first is the modern take-off on Grant Wood's famous painting "American Gothic," located on the south wall of the former Fonk's Building.
Chamber of Commerce Director Molly Keogh, Mayor Retzer, and City Financial Director Chris Mathis all said the 150 Celebration was successful.
"It went really well, and all the entities pulled off a really great day for the citizens of Colfax," Mathis said.
There were many activities for everyone to enjoy. Vendors, a parade, and a bouncy castle at the First Baptist Church on Mill Street.
"We thought we had a great turn out, and people seemed to be having a great time. The chamber was really pleased with how it turned out," Keogh said. "The children's parade was wonderful. We had a great turn-out to both the vendors, and Cork's N' Cap event.
"I just want to thank everyone that helped and contributed to putting on such a wonderful event."
