CHENEY – The state Department of Fish and Wildlife has suspended the fishing limits for Williams Lake in preparation for poisoning the lake with rotenone.
The unlimited daily retention will run through Oct. 9 for all gamefish, officials said.
The lake will close Oct. 10 through April 21 for application of piscicide rotenone, a naturally occurring poison is used to remove species Fish and Wildlife officials deem undesirable or illegally stocked.
The 317-acre is stocked annually by the department with a variety of trout species.
This year, the department planted 3,504 rainbow trout on March 21 and 300 larger rainbow on March 25. All the rainbow were from Spokane Hatchery.
On April 11, the department released another 507 cutthroat trout in the lake. Those trout came from Ford Hatchery.
The lake is located off Cheney-Plaza Road, between Cheney and Ewan.
