Local library hosts great grandson of Cashup Davis on monday
Whitman County Library Colfax branch hosted the authors of “Cashup Davis: The Inspiring Life of a Secret Mentor.”
The author's Jeff Burnside and Gordon Davis, Davis’ great-grandson, read from the biography about the life of Palouse pioneer, Cashup Davis Monday, Sept. 19. They spoke of Cashup Davis' successes in front of his famous telescope and top hat. Under all the chairs, bags of apples were placed, which Cashup was known for. Everyone took a bite together at the end. "Everyone has a little Cashup in them," said author Jeff Burnside to Gordon Davis as he handed him an apple.
To cap off the event those who wanted a book bought their copies and had the authors sign them.
The Whitman County Historical Society Cashup Davis exhibit can be viewed at the library. It includes the telescope from the hotel on top of Steptoe Butte and Cashup Davis' top hat.
There is also an electronic display featuring the story and pictures of Cashup Davis.
