Travis Morton discusses the age of quartzite buttes
ROSALIA— Travis Morton (EWU Geosciences and STRATA Geotechnical Engineering,) will be hosting a discussion of his senior research project at EWU Geosciences determining the age of quartzite buttes in the Palouse region, Sat. Oct 1, at the Budding Rose Gallery in Rosalia, 510 South Whitman Avenue. The lecture will start at 10 a.m., followed by a hike from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The event will be free, and open to everyone.
Morton will explain what these windows into the older geology of our area tell us about the Palouse’s past.
After the lecture, those interested will carpool to the nearby trailhead of the Palouse-Cascades Rails to Trails path and journey on foot across the Old Milwaukee Bridge to visit a beautifully folded and faulted quartzite.
The hike is about one mile on a flat and gravel path with minimal incline. You can review Morton’s research poster from the 2022 EWU Research Symposium online at https://dc.ewu.edu/srcw_2022/21/.
