Plowing bee brings folks together

Farmers from Tekoa, Colfax and Palouse enjoy old-time event

MOSCOW, Idaho – An annual "Plowing Bee" took place Saturday, Oct. 1 on Estes Road, a left turn right off of Highway 95 just a couple miles northwest of the city

The plowing bee here was a get-together between old farming friends.

They broke out their antique tractors from the barn to use and plow a field together.

According to Colby Dugger, the man who helps put together the event, there is no agricultural benefit to the event, just a reason for old farming buddies to get together and people in attendance to watch.

"It's a reason for old farming buddies who enjoy getting their antique tractors out and hanging with their buddies to get together," Dugger said.

The people operating the tractors range from near and far, with most coming from Tekoa, Palouse and Colfax, and some coming from Spokane and even Pennsylvania.

The plowing bee is one of a few in the region, with another taking place in Colfax (that has 30 years of history) and another in Tekoa.

The event this year was attended by the Palouse Lions Club.

Members made food for onlookers and attendees to enjoy.

The field on Estes Road was chosen due to it being flat and easy for the tractor drivers to operate and plow on.

"I just appreciate all the people who came out," Dugger said. "Who spent their time with us and had a fun time."
