The Colfax Band.

The band held a meeting and rehearsal last Monday evening, the first held since July. Since Prof. Read left the band has been seeking a new director, and Prof. Brinsmead, from Ft. Keogh, Mont., has been secured for the place.

The membership will be about the same as formerly, as also the instrumentation. In connection with the band there will be conducted a string orchestra, also under the leadership of Prof. Brinsmead, who is a very fine violin player.

The newly elected officers of the band are: President and manager, W. W. Waite; vice president, Howard Bramwell; secretary, Wm. Booth; treasurer, W. J. Davenport. The band will rehearse every Monday night and the orchestra every Thursday night. The band is in need of two or three new players, viz: Clarinet, cornet and piccalo, and it is hoped that any one with positions to offer will confer with the management of the band, so that the organization may be built up to its former standard, or better.

Fete at Rosalia Draws Crowds.

The home city festival which was held in Rosalia last Friday drew a large crowd to that city to enjoy a good time.

The business men had the streets appropriately decked in flags and bunting and the store windows were prettily arranged for the occasion.

The bank, grade and high school students, lodges and churches were well represented in a mile long parade which created a great deal of interest.

A number of floats were entered in the parade being decked out by the business men in hopes that their float might win the prize which was offered for the best one. First prize was won by the Rosalia Meat Market, which displayed a group of live stock. The two banks secured second place, both institutions working together on one float.

Athletic stunts and racing completed the morning program. In the afternoon the Rosalia and Colfax football teams played a game of football the victory going to the Rosalia boys.

The score at the close of the game was 3 to 0. A program and a dance in the evening completed the festival entertainment.

BULLDOGS FACING BATTLE OF YEAR

Conditioning Themselves For Game Next Week With St. John

Rounding themselves into the best of physical condition and learning a few new plays from their coach, Dick Felber, are the Colfax high school Bulldogs for the "battle of the season" against the St. John Eagles which takes place Thursday evening next week under the lights of Schmuck park.

St. John, winner of eight consecutive games last year and undefeated this year will be formidable opponents who already have dumped Tekoa 32-0 and fought a 0-0 conflict with Pomeroy whose team is said to have a high rating.

This week end the Eagles play Palouse, losers to Colfax 6-40. Colfax indulges in the luxury of a bye because of the cancellation of all games by Garfield, loser of one of its men by death resulting from a game at Rosalia.
