COLFAX— A survey was taken to gauge community support for the idea of a Greenway Trail this summer. The trail would provide a safe, park-like environment along the west side of the river through the downtown corridor, Cooper Street to Eels Park. The survey was taken by 12.3 percent of the Colfax population, 237 people. The results were supportive of the project.
Of the respondents, 78.8 percent live within Colfax, and 91 percent were in support of the project. According to the study the five most popular types of activities would be walking or hiking for exercise, biking for fun and exercise, pet walking, sightseeing and viewing wildlife. 26 percent, said they would use the trail for walking to work or school. Respondents noted activities that should not be allowed, including equestrians, as well as some mention of skateboarders and roller skates. Considering frequency of use 36 percent said it would be used 2-3 times per week.
The planning committee is continuing to address issues concerning clarifying property ownership through the corridor, and obtaining needed legislative approvals to move forward.
