MULTIPLE Whitman County TEAMS ON COACHES’ POLL

The Washington State Volleyball Coaches Association rankings have released, and multiple Whitman County teams are represented in the poll.

For 1B classification, defending 1B state champions Oakesdale take the top spot in the poll, with St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse taking the No. 4 spot in the poll.

For 2B classification, Colfax comes in at No. 5, one spot ahead of league rivals Lind-Ritzville/Sprague. The two teams played Oct. 25 in Colfax.

VOLLEYBALL

Oct. 22

Ferris 3, Colfax 1

Set Scores: 20-25, 15-25, 25-21, 20-25

Colfax’s win streak outside of tournament play was snapped against Oct. 22 in Spokane. The Bulldogs had not lost a match outside of tournament competition since their five-set loss to Pullman to begin the season.

Stat leaders for the game were Brynn

McGaughy with 16 kills and 5 blocks, Lauryn York with 19 assists and Brenna Gilchrist with 19 digs.

Oakesdale 3, Colton 0

Set Scores: 25-14, 25-9, 25-10

Oakesdale continued its streak of not giving up a set outside of tournament play Oct. 22 against Colton, keeping the Wildcats under 15 in all three sets. Oakesdale improves to 15-0 on the season and 9-0 in league play while Colton drops to 6-9 overall and 4-6 in league play.

Stat leaders for Colton were Holly Heitstuman and Grace Kuhle with 3 kills, Rachel Becker with 5 digs and Clair Moerhle with 1 ace.

Stat Leaders for Oakesdale were Brieyn Henley with 4 aces, Samantha Holling with 21 assists, Gianna Anderson with 14 kills, Marilla Hockett with 2 blocks and Jessie Reed with 11 digs.

Oct. 20

St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse 3, Pomeroy 0

Set Scores: 25-23, 25-19, 25-18

St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse held its senior night on Oct. 20 against the Pomeroy Pirates. The Eagles won in three sets despite a competitive effort from the Pirates, only losing by a combined 15 points in three sets.

Seniors honored for St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse were Addisen Becker, Olivia Kjack, Kyra Holt and Edyn Roberts.

Stat leaders for the Eagles were Kaitlyn Hough with 14 kills, Kjack with 1 ace, Becker with 28 assists, Holt with 9 digs and Kate Hergert with 6 blocks.

Colton 3, Tekoa-Rosalia 0

Set Scores: 25-17, 25-10, 25-17

Colton and Tekoa-Rosalia played on Oct. 20 in 1B Southeast-East competition.

Colton improved to 6-8 with the win before losing its Oct. 22 game against Oakesdale.

Stat leaders for the game were Rachel Becker with 9 digs and 6 aces, Grace Kuhle with 6 kills and 1 block and Sidni Whitcomb with 18 assists. No stats were available for Tekoa-Rosalia.

Oakesdale def. Garfield-Palouse 25-9, 25-5, 25-7

Garfield-Palouse wasn’t able to overcome the stifling receiving and kill game of Oakesdale, losing in three sets and unable to break through to double digits.

Stat leaders for Oakesdale were Gianna Anderson with 8 digs and 2 blocks, Payton Davis with 14 assists, Brieyn Henley with 8 kills and Jessie Reed with 7 aces.

No stats were available for Garfield-Palouse.

FOOTBALL

Oct. 22

Lapwai 66, Colton/Genesee 20

Colton/Genesee fell to 1-8 overall and 0-6 in league play in the Idaho Whitepine League conference against Lapwai on Oct. 22.

This game marks the final of the season for the Colton/Genesee Bulldogs.

Oct. 21

Sunnyside Christian 46, St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse 14

St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse football fell to 4-3 on the season and 3-3 in league play against Sunnyside Christian on Oct. 21 in LaCrosse.

Sunnyside Christian opened the first quarter with a 16-6 lead before putting up 30 more points in the second and third quarter while holding the Eagles scoreless through the same frames.

The fourth quarter saw St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse blank the Knights while putting up 8 points, but at that point the game was too far out of reach.

Tanner Fleming led the Eagles with 9 rushes for 70 yards and a touchdown while going 2-for-5 passing for 29 yards and another touchdown.

Tekoa-Rosalia game against DeSales canceled

Tekoa-Rosalia’s scheduled game Oct. 21 against DeSales in Walla Walla was canceled. No specific reason was given, but the Timberwolves have dealt with injuries to the players this season and played four games in 16 days from Sept. 29-Oct. 14.
