Bulldogs defeat Broncos in 2B volleyball matchup
COLFAX – Lind-Ritzville/Sprague was not able to unseat Colfax at the top of the Washington 2B Bi-County League and lost 3-0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-14) to the Bulldogs in Colfax.
"I think it's a good way to end our league," Colfax coach Megan Dorman said. "A lot of confidence. We were able to get the younger kids in so that helped with the starters. With the starters, (it) put some pressure on and (we were) able to let the other girls play. So it's just a good way to end the season heading into districts."
Set 1 started with Colfax jumping out to an early 5-0 lead, then a 13-4 run to go up double digits at 18-4. Lind-Ritzville/Sprague was able to compete better throughout the rest of the set, with Colfax closing out on a 7-5 run but the Bulldogs took the second set.
The second set was much of the same with the Bulldogs jumping out to an early 5-0 lead. The Broncos were able to get to nine in 10 less points and Colfax held a 15-9 lead. A 7-2 lead followed for the Bulldogs and Colfax took the second set 25-11.
Set 3 was more competitive. The Broncos kept steady pace with the Bulldogs, down only 13-8. Colfax was able to increase its lead by one at 20-14 before putting up five points in a row to take the third set 25-14.
Although the overall result was disappointing for LRS, the third set was encouraging for the team, especially with three starters gone for FFA competition.
"We're missing three starters tonight," Lind-Ritzville/Sprague coach Cari Galbreath said. "So I think it was a lot of (not being) in rhythm and a lot of picking up the slack of the usual team they're used to playing with."
The two squads may play again as the District Tournament will start Monday, Oct. 31.
