Serving Whitman County since 1877
ROSALIA — The Rosalia Fire Department is hosting its fourth annual Pig Roast, on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Rosalia Fire Station, 607 South Whitman Avenue.
The annual fundraiser includes a pulled pork dinner, a silent auction, and dessert bingo. There are whole hogs cooked for around 24 hours by the firefighters, and then hand shredded for dinner. Individuals and businesses from around the area donate items for a silent auction.
“We had a really good turnout the last couple of years,” said Whitman County Fire District #7, Fire Chief, Advanced EMT Laura Lautenslager, noting that people seem to enjoy it. “It’s Great opportunity for the people of the community to get together and have an evening of fun,” she added.
“Last year we had various pies and cookies and other desserts for the dessert bingo,” said Whitman Lautenslager, confirming that people win desserts from dessert bingo, which is played throughout the evening.
The event costs $20 for adults, and $10 for children aged 12 and under.
“We always really appreciate the community showing up,” said Lautenslager, noting that funds are not only used to support the fire department’s operations and purchasing of equipment, but the money also goes back into the community in various ways including scholarships. As well as charitable donations to various clubs, groups, and other organizations.
Lautenslager explained that the silent auction usually includes toy models, various gift certificates, and gift baskets, “There’s a lot of stuff,” she said.
