Garfield-Palouse gets its first win in over four years

The high school football season came to a close on this past week for Whitman County teams. Here are the results.

Touchet 37, Tekoa-Rosalia 6

The Touchet Redhawks finished out their season with a win and took down the Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves at home in Touchet.

Touchet finished the season 3-6 overall and 2-5 in league play. Tekoa-Rosalia finished the season 2-7 overall and 1-6 in league play.

Pomeroy 50, St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse 6

St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse was in charge of its own destiny to make the state playoffs and had an opportunity against the Pomeroy Pirates.

The Eagles' defense couldn't stop the Pomeroy offense, allowing 407 rushing yards in the game and 38 points in the first half. Pomeroy held SJEL scoreless in the first half, with the Eagles only points coming in third quarter.

Pomeroy put up 12 more points in the final frame to account for the 50-6 final.

St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse finished the season 5-4 overall and 4-4 in league play while Pomeroy finished 8-2 overall and 6-2 in league play.

Garfield-Palouse 26, Yakama Nation Tribal 22

Garfield-Palouse got its first win in four seasons and ensured its season did not conclude without a victory in an away game in Toppenish against the Yakama Nation Tribal Eagles on Nov. 5.

The Vikings were fraught with injuries throughout the season, sometimes going down to only eight available players during the game.

Garfield-Palouse had a couple near-wins during the season – falling in a quadruple-overtime game against St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse on Sept. 23 and losing by only one score (28-20) on Sept. 16 against Touchet.

Garfield-Palouse finished the season 1-8 overall and 1-7 in league play while Yakama Nation Tribal finished the season 0-9 overall and 0-8 in league play.
