School will shift to remote learning Dec. 8-9 as a result of various illnesses
Due to a variety of respiratory illnesses in the school, Tekoa High School will convert to virtual learning Thursday, Dec. 8 and Friday, Dec. 9.
The move comes from a recommendation from the Department of Health, who recommended a hybrid model to the school as a result of 25 percent of the students being absent from classes this past week as a result of the illnesses.
The decision to move the remote learning for Thursday and Friday was made to help limit the spread of illnesses to the rest of the school and Tekoa community.
The absent students are due to a variety of respiratory illnesses that are also affecting areas around Tekoa as well as bigger communities in Whitman County and eastern Washington, according to a school spokesperson, who was relaying information that school had received from the Department of Health.
Tekoa-Rosalia-related sports activities for the rest of the week have been canceled.
This includes girls and boys varsity basketball games Dec. 8 in Colton, girls varsity and boys junior varsity and varsity games Dec. 9 against Garfield-Palouse and a Dec. 10 wrestling meet.
