Bishop Boulevard resurfacing project

TIB awards over $500,000 grant for resurfacing

PULLMAN — The City of Pullman was awarded a $554,331 grant by the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) to help fund a Bishop Boulevard resurfacing project planned for the summer of 2023.

As one of 26 projects awarded statewide under t he TIB’s Arterial Preservation Program (APP), the project’s scope is to resurface a one mile stretch on Bishop Boulevard from Fairmount Drive to Main Street/State Route 270. Work for the project will concentrate on the main travel lanes, with select treatment only of the existing two-way left turn lane.

The grant is estimated to provide more than 75 percent of the total funding, assuming a projected cost of $713,205. The Public Works Arterial Streets Budget will fund the remainder.

“We are very grateful for this TIB funding, allowing us to proactively maintain our arterial, high traffic volume street,” said Public Words director for the City of Pullman, Shawn Kohtz. “The Public Works team understands that this project may overlap with Project Downtown Pullman, and if it does, every effort will be made to mitigate travel impacts.”

The Pullman City Council unanimously authorized execution of the grant application submission Aug. 9.

On Dec. 2, the TIB reported that they fulfilled 173 street and multi-modal improvement grants across Washington for a total that eclipsed $126 million.

The TIB funds high priority transportation projects in communities throughout Washington state to enhance the movement of people, goods, and services.
