Colfax boys lose to Clarkston

Bulldogs can’t defeat Bantams in close matchup

CLARKSTON – Colfax dropped its first game of the season against the Clarkston Bantams on Dec. 8, losing 65-59 after almost completing a comeback in the game.

Defense was the story for the first eight minutes of the game. Neither team was able to score double-digits through the first quarter of the game and Clarkston ended the first frame up 9-5.

Offense was put back on the table in the second quarter, with the Bantams putting up 19 points to Colfax’s 12 and going into halftime up 28-17 on the Bulldogs.

Clarkston was able to keep the lead in double digits throughout the third quarter and went into the final quarter up 43-33.

In what was almost a mirror of the final quarter against Liberty on Dec. 6 (this time with the Bulldogs attempting a comeback instead of trying to hold the lead), Colfax inched its way back into the game in the fourth, and ended up trailing 53-50 in the final 2:31 of the game off an Adrik Jenkin 3-pointer.

Jenkin finished the game with 17 points, 12 of them coming in the fourth quarter.

The three-point deficit was as close as the Bulldogs could get and the Bantams gave the Bulldogs boys basketball team its first loss of the season.

Colfax beat Upper Columbia Academy (Spangle) 73-49 on Dec. 13. No stats were available at press time.
