Carrie Belle Black, 87, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2022, at Orchard Crest in Spokane Valley, Washington under hospice care.
She was born January 28, 1935, to Earl and Emma (Ousley) Miller in Endicott Washington.
Carrie spent her childhood in Endicott, Colfax, Portland, St. John and Oakesdale where she graduated from high school in 1953. She worked at the Colfax telephone office following graduation until August 5th, 1954, when she married Donald "Buzz" Black in Lewiston, Idaho.
Carrie then accompanied Buzz to Naval duty stations in France, Idaho, the Philippines, Montana, and California.
Buzz retired from the U.S. Navy in 1974 and they moved their family back home to Oakesdale. They spent many summers alongside friends and family at their cabin in Twin Lakes, Washington.
Carrie enjoyed reading and was avid follower of baseball. Although a lifelong New York Yankees fan, she later became a dedicated supporter of the Seattle Mariners as well.
Carrie was preceded in death by her husband Buzz and their son Donny.
She is survived by daughter Susi Black, son Jeff Black (Val). Granddaughters Maggie Bradford (Joel), Whitney Black (Lexi) and Nicole Jeffries. Grandsons Patrick Gallagher and Levi Van Dyke (Amy). Her great-grandchildren Jack, Reagan, Tate, and Trenton; and two great-great-grandsons, Coby and Roman.
Carrie requested there be no public service. Memorials in Carrie's name may be sent to the Oakesdale, Washington Fire Department.
The family would like to thank Orchard Crest and Horizon Hospice for the exceptional care and support they provided Carrie.
